Special News for January 1, 2012!!

Greetings Sunday School Families!!

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas celebrating with your family! Just a quick reminder for next Sunday…NEW YEARS DAY 2012 (WOW!). Although the church is having 2 services (9am & 10:30am), we will only be having Sunday School during the 10:30 am service. Kathy (our infamous children’s church leader from the second service) and I will be joining forces to create one big group of fun. We know many of you will have a late night the night before ringing in the new year; therefore, we want to encourage you to sleep in, enjoy your family AND THEN come join your church family for the 10:30am service. We will be talking about our new year and new adventures. We will also have the children work on a time capsule that will be opened at the start of 2013.

Children will start the service with their families as and then they will be excused after the children’s moments (approx ¼ of the way into the service). We will take it from there with all kinds of fun until the end of the service.

Can’t wait to ring in the new year with all of you. One last thought…if you haven’t emailed me your WWJG pictures yet, please do so this week as this will be the last time to collect them. THANKS!!

Kelly

MARK YOUR CALENDARS!!

CHANGE OF SCHEDULE FOR THIS WEEKEND!

We have only had 2 families RSVP that they will be singing this weekend; therefore, we have made a change of plans for the children’s involvement with this year’s Cantata. We will no longer be meeting this Saturday, December 10th nor will we participate with the Cantata on Sunday, December 11th. Instead, Miss Dot would like to have the kids sing Away in the Manger during the children’s Christmas Eve service. We will be practicing the song this Sunday.

Not to worry, we will still have our regularly scheduled Children’s Sunday school THIS SUNDAY at 9am. Don’t forget….it’s SON MART THIS WEEK! YAHOOOOOOOOOOO! In addition to our Bible lesson, the children have been asked to decorate this year’s Christmas offering envelopes. Can’t wait to see you all there!

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to email Kelly at bkbetz@hotmail.com or call: 309-5588.

"WWJG" & December Calendar

Today we all worked hard building our very own stable for Jesus. They were so creative!!

We are excited to launch a new idea:

WWJG
Where Will Jesus Go?

The children colored a picture of Jesus this week in Sunday School. We have challenged them to take Jesus out of “the Christmas picture and manger” and into their lives. We would like this to be something the whole family can participate with as a group. Our group discussed that God can use all of us, no matter how young we may be, to teach others about Jesus. We even discussed that we can share Jesus with others not only with our words, but with our actions. If you were not able to be at Sunday school this week, no worries. You should be receiving a picture to color as well as instructions in the mail this week. If you do not receive them by the end of the week, please let me know so we can mail them out ASAP.

Our challenge for the next few weeks leading up to Christmas is to take our Jesus that we colored in Sunday School to all kinds of places throughout the community. This can be as simple as school, car trip, Publix, play ground, car line at school, work with mom and dad, dinner table, post office, friend’s house, and yes…..even Wal-Mart J. We are asking that the children record Jesus’ adventures through pictures. This is where mom and dad’s help are needed with the cameras. I am requesting that everyone sends me their pictures via email as you take them. I will be making a slide show that we will share each Sunday and add to each week until Christmas day. Pictures can be as simple or as creative as you and your child would like them to be and can include Jesus only, or Jesus with your child and/or friends. The idea is that we will be intentionally taking Jesus with us this Christmas season and allowing him to be a visible reminder in all that we do as we prepare for Christmas (also known as Advent).

If you have questions or concerns or do not want your child’s picture included in the slideshow, please let me know.

We have a super busy month as we celebrate the biggest birthday ever! Please take a glance at the following schedule for the remaining of the year as we have a lot of new changes for this month.

12/4th Next Sunday:
No 9am Sunday School or worship service. The church will be celebrating and worshipping as one body at the 10:30am service with a catered lunch to follow. The lunch is free for everyone, please RSVP through the church office if you have not done so already. This will be a time of commitment for our 2011 Stewardship for the church.
(Please remember to email me your pictures as I will be working these next 2 weeks on our first slideshow even though we will not be having Sunday School)

12/11: Christmas Cantata (both services)
The children have been asked by our Music Director, Mrs. Dot to participate in the 2011 Cantata with one song, Away in the Manger. Please check back ASAP as I will have more information about our participation and practice as I hear any news. We will be having regular Sunday School this day as well.

12/18th: More Adventures of WWJG!
This will be a regular scheduled Sunday School as we continue to discuss our on going adventures with WWJG. We will also continue to make Christmas cards for our shut ins that are not able to come to church during this Christmas season.

Saturday, 12/24th:
Children’s Christmas Eve Service at 4:30pm
This is a great service geared for our youngest members. Such a great time of worship and being with our church family. Instead of a candle light service, the children will participate with a glow stick service.

12/25th: MERRY CHRISTMAS!!
There will only be 1 service to celebrate as one body! Please join us at the 10:30am service and feel free to leave your children in their PJs as I’m sure mine will still be in theirs. J

1/1/2012: NEW YEAR!
There will be 2 services on New Year’s Day; however, in order to combine our resources for more fun, we will be having Children’s Sunday School at the 10:30am service only. So sleep in from your late night celebrating and join us a little later for an even bigger celebration of committing our new year to Jesus…..including a time capsule!

Shew! What a great Advent season we have planned for you and I can’t wait to celebrate with each and every one of you!!

EXCITING NEWS FOR THE ADULTS:

Sacred Space
New Adult Sunday School Class starting Sunday November 13th at 9:00am. Ages 18 and up welcome.

Do you need some sacred space in your life without being interrupted constantly by life and all the distractions that come with it? Would you like to worship and learn more about how to create a better relationship with God in a safe and loving environment?

We will be starting this class with a series by Andy Stanley called "Time".
A brief description is printed below.

What time is it? Where did all the time go? Does time really fly when you're having fun?
Maybe we think about time so much because there never seems to be enough of it.
Maybe there's only one question we need to ask. What am I doing with my time?
Simple question? Easy answer? It's time you found out. In this 5-part series, Time of Your Life, Andy Stanley will help you discover that answer. Don't waste another second.

Part One: "Your Days Are Numbered" - Psalm 90:12 - (Andy Stanley)
Part Two: "At Capacity" - Matthew 6:33 - (Andy Stanley)
Part Three: "Compounding Minutes" - Ephesians 5:15-17 - (Andy Stanley)
Part Four: "When Less is More" - Exodus 18:23 - (Andy Stanley)
Part Five: "Under the Sun" - Ecclesiastes 12:13 - (Andy Stanley)

This Sunday School Class is being by Blane Betz.
We will be meeting in the Youth Room in the Fellowship Hall.
Questions: Call Kelly or Blane Betz at 575-3501.

Time for the Little Orange Boxes!

Families, I Need Your Help…

Our church participates each year in collecting money for UNICEF through a program called Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF (you may recall the bright orange boxes). J

Dixie Tomasello puts together an October calendar every year to accompany the boxes as a fun way for children to collect coins. Each day has a suggested activity with a suggested coin amount.

Her hope is to include the children of our church in the calendar making process. We would like to cover all 31 days with suggested activities along with the name of the child that came up with the idea.

A few examples from past calendars:

*Give 5cents for each bottle of medicine in your house.
*Give 10cents for every pound you weighed when you were born.
*Give 1cents for every sock you own.
*Give 10cents for every box of cereal in your kitchen.

If you would like your child to participate, I will need all of the ideas by next Sunday preferably via email so I can send them directly to Dixie. This will be a fun way for the kids to see their name as well as see their friend’s name.

Thank you for your help!!
Kelly

Check out Trick-or-Treating for UNICEF for more detailed information about UNICEF and all the ways they bless the children of the world.

The children will be singing in the first service THIS SUNDAY, September 18th. Please bring your child to the Fellowship Hall at 8:45am for regular drop off and we will see that they make it into the sanctuary for their song. We had an amazing group last Sunday. We have started a new topic for the next few weeks:
